About WarnUS

WarnUS is a live real-time web app that can track tornado, severe thunderstorm, and flash flood warnings in the United States on a national and state level. In addition to displaying warnings in a concise and manageable format, there are several powerful features that are readily available.

- Virtual Weather Radio

The user has an option to input a specific county to receive alerts for. It is important to note that this only works if the webpage is left open. In addition to receiving tornado, severe thunderstorm, and flash flood warnings, all alerts affecting the selected county can be shown on the Virtual Weather Radio. The Virtual Weather Radio behaves much like an actual NOAA Weather Radio, including the option for an automated voice to read new warnings and statements when they're issued.

- Statistics

Statistics (that automatically update) can be used to track the severity of a weather threat through time. This is especially useful during high-end events when numerous warnings are in effect, for it is easier to determine whether the threat appears to be increasing or decreasing. Statistics are also available for storm motions and for warning sources (i.e. whether warnings are mostly based off radar or eyewitness reports).

- Points Of Interest

Arguably the most powerful real-time feature, alerts can be sounded for specific geographic points. Currently, this works only for tornado, severe thunderstorm, and flash flood warnings, but is still an extremely useful feature. For more information, please refer to the Point Of Interest Page for additional details.
